It is rare to find a gourmet brunch spot, and this one, around 13 years with its friendly service and decorated with collectibles, gets high marks. We could hardly make a choice amongst the crispy goat cheese over grilled tomato on an English muffin with poached eggs and bearnaise sauce, or similarly (instead of cheese) have pan seared crab cakes or African hash made of spicy beef and lentils. There’s spiced Indian pulled duck with bacon in a tortilla with scrambled eggs or the sharable trio of strawberry banana french toast, apple cinnamon, raisin and cream cheese stuffed french toast – and – a slice of their “tres leche” cake soaked in sweet cream and topped with strawberries. We need to go back here often.

What makes Connecticut so great? The Editors of Connecticut Magazine know, and they’ve made their choices for Connecticut’s “best” in the magazine’s annual Best of Connecticut feature. More than 240 Best of Connecticut 2011 winners are highlighted in the September issue of Connecticut Magazine.

And, The Corner Restaurant has been recognized by Connecticut Magazine® as the Best of Connecticut® 2011 Winner for Best French Toast!

Consistently rated as having one of the premier brunches in Connecticut, The Corner Restaurant not only offers the best French Toast. With unique dishes such as South Indian Spiced Pulled Duck wrapped in a bacon-layered tortilla with scrambled eggs, we pride ourselves on the innovative breakfast creations we make for our guests.

From the Magazine:

We really have only one word for you: Trio. That’s a weekend brunch special at this downtown nook, consisting of two slices of stuffed French toast (typically strawberry-banana and apple-raisin), which frame a square of homemade tres leches cake topped with strawberries and whipped cream. Divine decadence to the nth power. We’re also glad that The Corner is decorated with so many adorable turn-of-the-20th-century antiques and curios—they allow us to imagine we live in a time when no one talks about obesity, cholesterol and arterial plaque.
